Seed Library Kickoff and Ben Cohen

Gardening enthusiasts and everyone in the community are invited to the Ferndale Library on Wed., May 1st (at 6:30pm) to celebrate the start of a brand new Seed Library. Author Ben Cohen will share a fun and energetic presentation that highlights the importance of community seed sharing programs, while several members from the group of dedicated volunteer administors will be on hand to explain what a seed library is and how it will work.

During the Seed Library kickoff, Cohen will give a presentation that illuminates topics covered in his book From Our Seeds and Their Keepers. There will be copies available for purchase after his talk. Cohen will discuss why planting, saving and sharing seeds is essential to the cultivation of sustainable neighborhoods and healthy communities. Ben is an author, herbalist, gardener, and seed saver. He is also the founder of MI Seed Library, a community seed sharing initiative that has worked closely with a number of communities to help establish seed library programs throughout the Midwest.
